Optimizing maintenance and OEE
In addition to efficient processes and structures, lean production systems also require that existing machine capacities be used in an optimal, productivity-oriented manner. This requirement becomes even more important in view of, in particular, the growing capital intensity associated with high-tech equipment designs and the necessity of investing globally.
In equipment-intensive production facilities, this leads, on the one hand, to a maintenance “renaissance” and, on the other, to these considerations becoming a crucial tool for controlling ongoing production costs and the requisite investments in replacement and expansion. At the same time, however, it is necessary that designs be aimed at holistic optimization of equipment efficiency and use.
One option - uncovering waste and finding hidden capacity reserves – consists of making rigorous, consistent use of the performance indicator “overall equipment effectiveness” (OEE). This involves more than simply comparing the actual utilization of equipment to that which is theoretically possible. Much more important is the structured identification of other factors negatively influencing the economic utilization of production equipment. This enables the production process to be monitored and, at the same time, creates the basis for eliminating loss sources and developing a continual process of productivity improvement.
ROI Consulting deploys a wealth of methods and best practices that enable the goal of optimal plant equipment efficiency to be realized. These include both standardized auditing of OEE status evaluation (ROI OEE Analyses) and maintenance efficiency (ROI 7-Point Maintenance Program) and practice-proven procedures models for implementing such concepts as maintenance excellence, total productive maintenance (TPM), or OEE production controlling.
In addition, our consultants have the necessary know-how for developing the requisite data records from existing ERP or equipment data systems, as well as for, if required, add-on systems that can be implemented where appropriate.
