Port Louis, June 24, 2025 – The official kick-off workshop for the “Manufacturing 4.0” project in Port Louis marked the start of a nationwide initiative to digitize Mauritian industry. The aim of the program is to make manufacturing companies fit for the future through targeted technological support, knowledge transfer, and individual roadmaps.
Political kick-off and technical highlights
The event was organized on behalf of the Ministry of Industry Mauritius, SME, and Cooperatives. Representing the acting minister Adil Ameer Meea, Marie-Arianne Navarre-Marie, Minister for Gender Equality and Family Affairs, opened the event with a clear commitment to industrial transformation. The workshop focused on forward-looking topics such as smart factories, lean management, robotics, digital twins, and the metaverse. These were not only presented in lectures, but also brought to life through VR demonstrations.
EFESO as local implementation partner
EFESO Management Consultants contributes its international expertise to the project. The workshop was led by Dr. Uwe Steinkoetter and Svyatoslav Funtikov, who worked with around 20 industrial companies to develop initial individual roadmaps for digital transformation.
“The workshop raises awareness among companies about how Manufacturing 4.0 technologies can lead to greater efficiency, transparency, and added value—without removing people from the center of decision-making.”
Dr. Uwe Steinkoetter
Following the successful launch, the intervention phase is now beginning: working closely with the companies, the EFESO teams analyze production and business processes on site and support the implementation of specific measures in line with the roadmaps that have been developed.
Part of a national digital strategy
The project is part of the Mauritian government's Digital Transformation Blueprint 2025–2029. The aim of this blueprint is to position Mauritius as an innovation-friendly industrial location in the international arena. In addition to targeted support measures such as tax incentives for AI investments by start-ups and SMEs, the plan also provides for the establishment of a national research and innovation institute and an AI innovation program. In addition, industrial companies have access to support instruments such as the Industrial Finance Corporation of Mauritius and the Development Bank of Mauritius.
