Explanation: Engineer-to-Order (ETO)

Engineer-to-order (ETO) is a production concept in which companies manufacture their products based on their customers' requirements. In contrast to "Make-to-Stock" (MTS) or "Make-to-Order" (MTO), production does not take place in stock, but only after the manufacturing company has received the order and technical specifications from the customer.

Close cooperation between customers, engineers and production teams is usually necessary to ensure that the products ultimately meet these requirements. Typical fields of application for ETO can be found in industries with a high level of engineering performance, such as heavy industry, shipbuilding and mechanical and plant engineering.
